My passion for writing as a means of expression and connection started when I was seven years old.I was a published poet in the Library of Congress at 16, but I knew I wanted to be a copywriter straight out of college. I earned my Bachelor's degree in advertising at Barry University in Miami, Florida. I thought I was supposed to work at some big-name ad agency like Ogilvy & Mather out in Brickell. I was going to work my way up, but life has a way taking unexpected turns.After my sister died in 2010, I had to design a new normal. I decided to launch myself as a freelance remote copywriter in 2011—well before remote working was cool (or, you know, forced on the world due to a global pandemic).I've written for hair care brands, fashion designers, retail companies, law firms (so many law firms), entertainment and news publications, marketing companies, tech startups, and confectionery retailers, to name a few. You can also find me moonlighting as a resume writer and an editor of professional/legal documents and, more recently, children's books.I’ve spent more than 10 years helping businesses connect with their audience. In that time, I’ve contracted as a content writer with popular web brands like Styleblazer.com and Atlanta Blackstar.Through my journalism background and writing talents, I’ve independently secured interviews with entertainment icons like Nelly, Christina Milian, and Ryan Coogler and helped them tell their stories through the written word.

I strongly believe that if it can be better, it should be better. You're never as good as you're gonna get. If you care enough to put the time into it, you can improve in any area. I am a lifelong learner, always seeking to elevate and refine my skills and my art. I believe that we should all be constantly aiming for the best version of ourselves, and that is my overarching goal as a copywriter: to help people and brands present the best version of themselves to the world.

Listen

As much as I like to be heard, the older I get, the more I realize how important it is to listen (to others and to God). Listening brings pause and allows us to assess, understand, and gain insight and wisdom. Listening allows us to learn, and I like to learn as much as possible about my clients and partners to better serve them. In a time when trends, markets, and needs are constantly and rapidly changing, truly listening is the difference between success and failure. It's also one of the important ways we improve ourselves.

Persevere

I might be somewhat compulsive; once I pick up a task or start on a journey, I almost always have to see it through. It physically pains me to let it go, and it pains me to watch others do the same. Give it one last look, shoot one last shot, try one last thing. Exhaust. Every. Measure. At least then you'll know you did everything you could before you throw in the towel. Persevere. There is a solution. You can find it.

Envision the Future

We should all be manifesting the reality of our dreams. I try my best to keep my vision in sight. If I can see it in my mind, I know I can do it. That's just how my brain works. It's hard to give up when you know you can solve the problem or see your way clear to the outcome you desire. All that's left is getting there.

Fun Fact

My number ones are God and family. I have 5 kids who are my nieces and nephews. That's right—Auntie-mama, here. You may not have heard of it, but it's a unique place to be. You know that strange, unexpected sweet spot between being a mother and the fun, take-no-mess aunt? Yeah, that's where I live. People don't know much about us (the Auntie-mama), but I've heard we are a rare and delightful unicorn breed of woman.

The Objective

Fashion designer K. Michelle contacted me looking for a professionally written "about" page for her website. She wanted a bio that would all at once tell her story and announce her entry into the fashion industry with her debut line K. Michelle Collection.

The Idea

I proposed that we do the bio as a profile article that feels like a cross between a press release and a magazine feature. It was the perfect way to introduce her to the world. I interviewed her for the article and used relevant quotes as call-outs in the piece to highlight her thought and creation process as a designer.
